The Rise and Development of Neo-Romanticism in LiteratureThe term neo-romanticism is believed to have been first used by Friedrich Schlegel. Schlegel was a German poet who was quite critical in his literary work. Neo-Romanticism refers to the movement born between 1880 and 1910 in the fields of literature, philosophy, music, painting and architecture. Schlegel defined it in his own words as a "literature that depicts emotional matter in imaginative form". ” This simply implies that it was a reaction to the then popular realist and idealist ideologies that were imposed on the people at that time (Mellor 173). However, with the growing desire for liberalism and freedom, scholars and other thinkers needed to have the opportunity to be able to exercise one's thoughts without unnecessarily respecting any rules. After the origin of this movement, it spread to different corners of the world in which it was embraced by the people, for example in the United States it was introduced by Allen Ginsberg in Japan it was Yasuda Yojūrō; USSR by Ulysses Elytis; while in Poland it was attributed to the works of Antoni Lange, who actively participated in the activities of the Young Poland Movement (Clarke and Clarke 27). rise of neo-romanticism was the opposition to realism that had dominated in the minds of many writers. Rejecting realism means that literary scholars should no longer do the following. First, they would not be forced to incorporate the emotional element into their works. This is one of the techniques advocated by realists (Hopkins 97). Because they had abandoned the use of Romantic conventions, the true… medium of paper… was the creation of knowledge from nothing rather than from the historical past. However, it is important to recognize that neo-romanticism is a past movement. It still exists because many contemporary writers still subscribe. It is practiced by different artists from different parts of the world, although mainly as underground movements. Some of these artists are Ted Hughes; Angela Carter; Peter Ackroyd; Russell Hoban; and Pauline Stainer. As a result of their dedications, neo-romanticism is still practiced as it makes itself felt in their rich writings and those of other writers who operated under the aegis of Fantasy Art; Regionalisms; Neofolk; New Romantic; and neopagan movements. Through them the ideas of ne-romanticism still exist. This shows that it was a real ideology that significantly transformed the literary community.
