A master in the art of living does not make a clear distinction between his work and his play; his work and his free time; his mind and body; his education and his entertainment. He hardly knows which one is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does and lets others decide whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always seems to do both. - Francois Augusts Rene Chateaubriand Over the past 4 months, I have had the opportunity to spend some time observing the head coach of the Joy Christian School basketball team, Coach Scott Brown. I also worked with a club team coach, Oliver. It was an eye-opening experience to see all the different facets of coaching a high school team. Before this experience I have always been a gamer. Going from a player to a manager showed me many new aspects of the game. One of the most important things I learned is that coaching is not a seasonal position. If you want to be successful, you have to work hard all year round. Another observation I made is that the low salary of $3,000 is not enough to support a family. However, I would be more than willing to have a second job that fits my schedule. I would love the opportunity to become a head basketball coach at the high school or college level. There are many different types of coaching positions. The first and most common type is volunteer coaching. Voluntary coaching is typical of recreational sports with younger children. The second type of coaching is closely related to coaching at the high school level. This type of coaching job pays anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000. Coaches at this level often have another job on the same campus, such as teaching... middle of paper... n. Whether I coach at a Christian school or not, I hope to make this one of my top priorities. I think this is important because basketball is not life the only important thing. It's more important that I teach about God than basketball. Basketball doesn't make you who you are, but a life with Christ does. In conclusion, I enjoyed learning more about a possible future opportunity in Coaching. I am so interested in this opportunity because of my love for the game and desire to help others improve. I realize that I will not be able to reach all players. I'm willing to do my best. I realize that this is unlikely to be my only job. I'm willing to do what it takes to make this a part of my career. . I would love the opportunity to become a head basketball coach at the high school or college level. Works Cited FCA Coach's Bible
