Tragedy is seen above all in pure and innocent characters. The deaths of those who are innocent have the blindness to see the deception of others. Characters who don't deserve their unfortunate fate die. Desdemona is the heart of Iago's plan and her loyalty to Othello will ultimately lead to her deathbed. Emilia's husband is the villain she hates, but giving him the one item she needs dooms everyone. Othello falls for Iago's plan as soon as his fatal flaw of jealousy comes into play. In the tragic comedy Othello, by William Shakespeare, the innocent characters Desdemona, Emilia, and Othello are led to their deaths because they are manipulated into trusting Iago. Desdemona is loyal and caring, which blinds her from Iago's manipulation. Desdemona's loyalty and care help build Iago's plan. This loyalty is seen when Othello questions Desdemona about her loyalty to him, in front of Emilia. Desdemona does not want to upset Othello any more than she already is and remains loyal and silent, trying to reassure that she is Othello's true and loyal wife. Likewise, Desdemona tries to comfort Othello's tears by saying, “If perchance you, my father, suspect / An instrument of this your lure, / Do not lay your blame / on me. If you have lost it, /Why, I have lost it too,” (OTH.IV.II.44-47). Desdemona remains faithful to Othello despite his earlier outburst of calling Desdemona an unfaithful prostitute, and tells Othello that if he is angry because his father, Brabantio, calls him back to Venice, then she is angry with him too. Desdemona cannot question Othello's accusations nor can she defend herself from Othello's words due to her undying loyalty. Likewise, Desdemona's caring nature also helps Iago's plan unfold, due to Desdemona's friendship... middle of paper... while Iago seems to become more honest, Othello becomes less faithful. However, Othello still had some faith, saying that if Desdemona was unfaithful "then heaven would be fooling itself", meaning if Othello were to believe it then heaven is fooling itself. However, Othello proves his loyalty and desperation when he finally sends Iago to be tortured and kills him, knowing the truth. Innocence with care and love is manipulated by Iago, leading these characters to their deaths. Desdemona's loyalty and love are characterized as beautiful qualities, while Iago uses these qualities to turn Othello against her. Emilia's obedience to her husband abandons her and Desdemona. Othello becomes increasingly jealous and persuaded by Iago, who planned for this to happen and end Othello's life. In conclusion, Othello demonstrates that power means nothing without control over one's fatal flaws.
