Music in today's society has become familiar and somewhat predictable. To stand out nowadays, an artist must be different; they have a unique style and above all they remain true to themselves. Fans of an artist can see through a song that isn't true to the artist's style. Good musicians are born from those who stand up for who they are, even as everyone around them follows what the people around them say is best for them. Great musicians come from those who strive to be greater than they know they can be. Chase Rice when asked how big he wants to be, always responds by saying, "On a scale of 1 to 10, be an 11." The life he lives shows that he is devoted to being eleven. Over the course of his life, Rice exceeded an exceptional number of expectations and managed to become a success practically on his own. Rice has quite an eventful background and a unique musical style. Rice was an incredibly driven man. He excelled at sports and became the University of North Carolina's starting lineman until an injury damaged his career. While he was recovering from the injury, his father died; he was the man who instilled in him his competitive nature and knowledge of the importance of a positive attitude. To help him deal with his problems, a friend introduces him to the guitar, giving rise to a passion for music he didn't know he had. Rice moved on with his life and became a member of the mascara crew for Ryan Newman. This opened up the opportunity for him to use his talent by singing during some pre-competition ceremonies. After being a member of the pit crew, Rice became a star on the show Survivor: Nicaragua. As the last person to be rejected, Rice learned a lot. He used Survivor as an opportunity to put his life on the line... middle of paper... a man who was taught at an early age to be competitive and to maintain a positive attitude no matter the situation. The definition of a great musician is one who leaves a mark not only on the industry but on history itself. It's the beginning of a new era of music; an era dominated by individuals and not by industry. In today's society, he will be sure to make his mark with his crazy styles and decide not to be on the scale but to be an eleven. Works Cited “About – Chase Rice.” About Chase Rice. Chase Rice, 2013.
