Drummers played a very important role in the Revolutionary War and especially in the Civil War. Without the drums, these wars could have been totally different. Drums were first used in battle in America during the Revolutionary War for several reasons, including communication. Drums and drummers played a huge role during the Civil War. Not only did the drummers give orders with the drums, but they helped a lot in many other things on and off the battlefield. Many drummers during the Civil War were young teenagers, some not even yet. Some very notable drummers were; Johnny Clem, Charley King and William Horsfall. As you can see, drums and drummers were a necessity during the Civil War.
