Isolation is the beginning of the fifth stage and this is noticed in the early stages of adulthood as they begin to explore personal relationships. When a young adult creates a close, committed relationship, they will be able to feel committed and secure. Erikson believed that it was very important for a young adult to experience this stage because it would give him or her a sense of personal identity, which is vital to creating intimate relationships with others. Erikson realized that if a young adult did not experience this type of skill building, they would suffer from emotional isolation or possibly less committed relationships. In adulthood, they will begin the Generativity vs Stagnation phase, seventh. This is where the adult will begin to focus on career and family. When an adult goes through this stage, he or she will be successful and experience a sense of contribution to the world. This is where they will begin to be active in their home and community. An adult who fails to learn this stage will not be as productive and will have no engagement with the world. When a child is taught to take pride in these accomplishments, this will continue into adulthood and then follow his or her life partner as well. The final stage is called Integrity versus Despair, which is noticed during old age and they begin to look back on their life. When they feel proud of what they have done and accomplished in their life, they will display a sense of integrity with very few regrets about what they have done. Now, if they feel that their life has been wasted, they will feel many regrets and show signs of it
