This article discusses homosexuality as a form of deviant behavior in Nigeria. In doing so, the article will examine the nature of homosexuality, its causes and also the consequences of this particular behavior for those involved in it as well as the wider Nigerian society. The article also attempts to outline all previous attempts that have been employed to address homosexuality, including their successes and failures. Finally, the paper also examines the prevalence of homosexuality in Nigeria and provides suggestions on how to address this behavior more effectively. GOODLUCK JONATHAN, the president of Nigeria, signed a bill criminalizing homosexual relations on January 13, arguing that the new law is in line with the country's religious and cultural beliefs. In the religious aspect both Christianity and Islam condemn homosexuality, in Christianity the passages of the Old Testament book Leviticus which forbid "lying with men as with women: it is an abomination" and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah have historically been interpreted as a condemnation of homosexual acts, and in Islam Shari'ah law is extracted from both the Quran and the Sunnah of Muhammad (which is found in the center of the paper and in the mortar" or "a rope in a well". The purpose of this article was to discuss homosexuality in the Nigerian perspective, outlining the nature of homosexuality as a deviant behavior, why it is considered deviant, the cause of this behavior using examples, also the consequences of this behavior , the attempts used to address it, including successes and failures, the spread of homosexuality in Nigerian society, and a preferable approach to the issue of homosexuality seen as deviant. I personally believe that every country has the right to make its own laws and also punish its offenders equally, however homosexuality should not only be seen as a crime but should be studied as an object and then Nigeria would reach the common goal of promoting stability not only within society, less discriminatory social interaction.
