The state chosen for this project is Delaware. Delaware is a small state located in the Mid-Atlantic. Delaware is usually referred to as the first state because it was the first state to sign the Constitution. Delaware may also be called the Blue Hen State because the blue hen is the official bird of Delaware and because of the blue hens that Delaware soldiers brought with them during the Revolutionary War. Delaware also has a third nickname, the Diamond State, because Thomas Jefferson said it was a "jewel." Delaware was never a colony. It was called New Sweden when the Swedes took it from the Lenape Native Americans. It was then called New Amstel when the Dutch took it from the Swedes. Then it became part of Pennsylvania, but the people who lived there didn't want to be part of Pennsylvania. The people eventually gained independence from Pennsylvania and named the new state Delaware. Delaware's oldest ethnic heritage is that of the Native Americans who called themselves Lenape. Delaware also has a Swedish and Dutch ethnic heritage because they were the first Europeans to settle there. Today, many people of diverse cultural heritages live in Delaware. Delaware has some famous cities and attractions. Delaware City is a popular and lively city in Delaware. Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach are two famous beaches in Delaware. Delaware also has other beautiful attractions such as the Delaware Art Museum and Brandywine Creek State Park. Delaware experiences all four seasons. In Delaware, summers are humid, fall is warm, winters are cool with light snow, and spring is warm, but cooler than fall. Delaware's average annual total precipitation is forty-five inches. The territory of Delaware is overall flat. It has the beach... in the center of the card... it's corn muffins. I chose it as the state recipe because it contains corn and corn is the second largest crop produced in Delaware. So, I thought the recipe was interesting since it incorporated corn into a muffin! Delaware offers a wide variety of foods and things to try. From soybeans, to corn, to lots of chicken and lots of crab, there is so much to taste! Certainly not to forget the great gastronomic festivals. There is also a wide variety of heritages and it is possible to experience all four seasons there. Delaware's wacky laws, such as the one that states "no person may pretend to sleep on a waterfront bench" (Stupid Laws: Stupid Laws: We Have Weird Laws, Weird Laws, and Just Crazy Laws!), also make it an interesting place. . All of this is why Delaware got its more recent nickname, little wonder, from how such a small state can have so many wonders..
