Topic > The Pros and Cons of Gun Control - 672

Although there are many opinions on laws related to gun control, the American government should enact more laws such as the Georgia Gun Rights Bill. At first glance, this law seems ridiculous, but upon deeper thought, it might actually work. This law would allow Georgian citizens to carry firearms virtually anywhere (Simon). Right. Everywhere. Our reasoning as to why this act might succeed is simple; it is the same as the playing field. Criminals and people with mental disorders who seek to harm others with the use of firearms will be able to gain possession of a gun in one way or another, regardless of whether it is legal or not. Then, when the time comes that there is an imminent threat from a person with a firearm, other citizens will be able to defend themselves. This would allow responsible citizens to carry guns to defend themselves from people who own guns and pose potential threats. Furthermore, if the government enacted laws banning firearms, it would not stop gun violence. A similar scenario is laws against illegal drugs. According to CNN, as many as 22 million Americans still use drugs. And does the government think that laws outlawing guns will stop people from obtaining guns illegally? Not even a chance. Obviously, the solution is not to take away guns from responsible citizens. Not only does gun control disarm citizens, it also increases crime rates. Many people believe that with stricter gun control laws there will be less crime because fewer people will have access to guns. Seems reasonable, right? Well, that's not true for a big reason; the laws do not apply to criminals. So, doesn't this mean that criminals have the advantage? The answer is yes… for states with low gun ownership. In 2012, North Dakota had a tot… half paper… audit laws are wrong for America. Our Constitution gives every citizen the right to bear arms, and laws, such as the Georgia Gun Rights Bill, respect this privilege. Furthermore, disarming innocent citizens will only expose them to the risk of harm from criminals and the mentally ill who obtain and use weapons. Furthermore, people would not have to worry about the risk of being attacked if they had the absolute right to protect themselves, as supported by recent evidence. Therefore, abolishing laws that limit this right makes perfect sense. Beyond that, laws restricting our right to bear arms create the potential risk of despotic governments across the nation, and when that happens, a popular rebellion cannot take place. Ultimately, taking firearms away from the public has put this nation in a downward spiral.
