Almost every country in the entire world has experienced a revolution because people have always wanted change be it social, economic or political, or for those people who wanted control of their own own life, rather than being under the rule of a powerful regime. There are two revolutions that caught my attention while researching my research paper design. These are the People Power Revolution, which took place in the Philippines in 1986, and the Orange Revolution in Ukraine in 2004. Although these two revolutions have many similarities, for example both protested non-violently, there are more differences due of what the goal of each revolution is and how the revolution began; how long the revolution lasted and who was involved in the protest; what nonviolent methods or actions they used and the impact of the revolutions they had. In every revolution, there is a goal that each country is fighting for. First let's talk about the People Power Revolution. The Filipino people wanted Ferdinand Marcos, former president of the Philippines for nearly 20 years, to end his dictatorship. What began as a realm of honor then transcended into a realm of horror. What do I mean by this? During his first term as President of the Philippines, he promised and showed all the hopeful Filipino people to have Philippine prosperity, which he did. However, things started to get complicated during his second and third terms as president. He corrupted and put his own country in debt. He also declared martial law where the country is under the control of militarist forces and where the people have no civil rights. Marcos was accused of ordering his troops to shoot his presidential opponent B...... middle of paper...... ribbons and confetti representing Cory Aquino's campaign color. While for the Orange Revolution, although the revolution lasted more than two months, the protests lasted only 6 days. Nearly a million Ukrainians were involved in the protest. The Pora student group, which suspected election fraud, immediately organized a protest in the Ukrainian parliament; the Maidan. People assembled a sea of orange wearing orange ribbons and carrying orange flags symbolizing the color of Yushchenko's campaign. Despite the cold, people were ready to stand day and night in front of the building. There should be a plan of action or methods to use when involved in a revolution. People's Power Revolution protesters who wanted to depose former President Marcos had planned to assassinate him in his main office, Malacanang..
