Topic > Nosocomial Clabssis in Nursing - 915

After reviewing research articles and finding that nosocomial CLABSIs are a problem in many areas of nursing, it is evident that nurses need additional training on this topic. It would also be useful to establish a change plan for quality assurance and establish guidelines for staff to follow during the inclusion and care of CLs. Continuing education is always a plus in nursing. Keeping up to date with evidence-based practices and research ensures that nurses are up to date on current literature, allowing them to provide safe, quality patient care. The research conducted in these articles highlighted the fact that staff training has led to improved patient outcomes in relation to hospital-based CLABSIs. This is a small change that can have a huge impact and would be beneficial to providing quality patient care by decreasing the risk of patients developing CLABSI in all areas of nursing practice. Change brings disadvantages and challenges that can be difficult to overcome. People are creatures of habit and often have difficulty adapting to new ways of doing things. Implementing a new change also requires time to research the best policy, time to train staff, costs to retrain staff, and possibly costs for new equipment needed to implement the change. In medicine, things are constantly changing and evolving as research and technology bring new ways of providing care. How leadership and staff embrace change determines the advantages and disadvantages of healthcare delivery. If implementing a quality assurance change plan will lead to safe and positive outcomes for patients, then the advantages will far outweigh the disadvantages. There are many possible areas in nursing practice in which to implement a quality plan… middle of paper… Although more research is needed to establish the cause of CLABSIs and best CL care practices, there are some improvements in ensuring CL qualities that can be implemented now. Using evidence-based research, a quality assurance change plan can be implemented to reduce the risk of nosocomial CLABSIs. Nursing staff must be adequately trained on the new standard of care, adequate training must be provided to staff, appropriate devices must be available and evaluation of the procedure is necessary to ensure the best outcome for the patient. Nursing leadership will play an important role in supporting these changes. With the proper guidance, training and tools nurses will be able to implement the established quality assurance change plan. This will lead to a positive outcome for patients, decreasing morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs related to nosocomial CLABSI.
