Topic > Personal Experience: Writing and Performing My Music

“There are approximately 37 million student loan borrowers with outstanding student loans today.” (asa.org). That seems to be a ridiculously high number, except that “…12 million (people)… take out loans every year to cover costs.” (asa.org). This means that 12 million people fall into even more debt every year. When it comes to college, every year is another leap and another lock into a debt that will take years and years to repay. This seems to raise an important question; Is college just a debt trap? College may truly not be the best option for everyone in today's society. Most workplaces nowadays find the appropriate college degree to be very vital, or even required, during the hiring process. However, there are jobs that do not require a university degree. For example, many music career options do not require any type of college education. The field of music career has been a thriving field of employment for centuries, growing and forming as technology becomes more extensive. As technology has expanded more and more, the list of job positions available in the field has also grown. As a musician, these job positions caught my attention. Especially considering I would rather not be consumed by the debt bestowed upon those attending college. However, what I have learned through my extensive research is that there are many more contributions to the recording of a single song, or the performance of a single show, than what is actually seen or heard. And each of these contributions has a business opportunity in itself. Some of these jobs, such as a recording engineer, require some sort of training or certain qualifications to properly perform the tasks assigned to… middle of paper… there is no real need to go into debt, so don't do it ”. At least this time I will listen to my mother's words and not go into debt. I don't need a higher education after high school and I believe I can do what many others have done before me and achieve my dreams in my own way. One day I will prove anyone who tells me I can't make it to the "big leagues" of music wrong. Works Cited Desenne, Michael. “The most expensive American cities to live in.” Kiplinger. Network.
