First of all, high levels of emotional intelligence are needed in teamwork activities. When people are able to interact in positive ways, they are more likely to be creative and responsive to the ideas of the entire group. Second, 90% of top performers have high emotional intelligence (“About Emotional Intelligence,” 2011). Therefore, it is a benefit and advantage for a person to strive for higher emotional intelligence scores. There are ways a person can improve their emotional intelligence. For example, it is useful to keep a diary and record emotional states over the course of a month. In this way, a person can track their body and signals (Mackin, 2006). Another good technique is to use “self-talk” because what people say to themselves reveals their emotional states, positive or negative (Mackin, 2006).
