Amazon Rainforest Weather Oddities: Climate Change Patterns. What is causing climate change in the Amazon rainforest and what could be done to stop and/or prevent this from happening? Before I go into every detail related to my research question: what and where is the Amazon rainforest located? The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world; half are found in Brazil and other South American countries, counties such as Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela. About 10% of the world's known animal species and about 20% of the world's bird species live and can be found in this tropical rainforest. So what is causing problems in keeping this rainforest safe and why is the climate changing? For starters, the protection of this huge tropical rainforest is starting to become a big issue. Although deforestation rates have slowly declined over 10 years, the Amazon forest suffered severe damage due to droughts in 2005 and 2010. A 2009 study predicted that global warming would further complicate efforts to save the Amazon rainforest. according to these recent studies it is expected that approximately 1/3 of the trees in the Amazon forest will be killed even by the modest increase in temperature. It is estimated that up to 85% of the forest could be lost if greenhouse gas emissions are not controlled. (Adam, David. “The Amazon could shrink by 85% due to climate change, scientists say.” Theguardian.com. Guardian News and Media, 11 March 2009. Web. 06 May 2014.).... .. half of the paper ......studies have been conducted and it is reported that a number of polar bears are drowning due to the long distances they swim to reach the ice floes. If nothing is done to prevent this from happening, the polar bear in Alaska will most likely become extinct by 2050. ("Understanding Climate Change Impacts on the Amazon Rainforest." Met Office. What are the socioeconomic consequences? **Sea level rise:-In general, the result of climate change on the socioeconomic situation will lead to an increase and escalation of socioeconomic costs..
