A person eats to obtain the energy from food that allows our body to carry out various functions that allow us to survive. The food that people eat will pass through their digestive system which will then allow them to make use of the energy contained in the food. The energy taken from food is then sent, through the bloodstream, to all living cells. These cells then use this energy to carry out their daily functions and tasks. We also eat food to help rebuild and repair old and damaged cells. Diets are particular foods that are consumed by a particular person or group. There are many types of diets that can differ in small or big ways. Different diets can also be healthy or unhealthy for you. An example of an unhealthy diet is one that includes too much of a food group or it can be any food group. A healthy diet is one that provides the correct balance of foods and provides a person with all the nutrients needed for their body to thrive. Nutrition is the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth. Proper nutrition requires the correct balance of all the different food groups. Too much of a good thing can easily turn into a bad thing. Having a good diet means having balance in your diet and eating the right foods. All the food you eat provides you with essential nutrients for survival, and having a good amount of those nutrients means having good nutrition. A lifestyle disease is a disease caused by a person's lifestyle; a disease that can potentially be prevented by changing diet, environment and lifestyle, such as heart disease, stroke, obesity and osteoporosis.
