Human beings have established their rights in society for many, many years now. However, because some human beings differ from the norms established in society, they are shunned and denied rights until they conform to society's norms. There have been numerous groups of people who have been denied their rights in America. African Americans, immigrants, Native Americans, and gays have been isolated simply because that's how they were born into this world and others don't find them "normal." However, there is also another group that has been mistreated; people who identify as transgender. A good portion of society is unconsciously misinformed about these types of people. When an individual identifies as transgender, it means that they feel that their biological gender does not match their psychological gender. To put it simply, the individual feels that he or she was “born in the wrong body.” For example, a man feels that he should have been born a woman and vice versa. It seems rather unusual, but why should it matter? An individual should be able to make their own decisions about how to live their life. Unfortunately, however, not everyone feels the same way about it. This is how controversy is created. This is why transgender rights should be strengthened in America not only because it is morally correct, but also because it would make life easier for people within this group, reduce rates of discrimination and harassment of transgender individuals, and help create awareness. as a transgender person it's not easy.
