SR Crown Hall, which is the home of the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, is one of the most beautiful and modern examples of architecture that the city of Chicago has to offer its residents. This simple steel and glass structure is the perfect representation of the modernist era of architecture and truly creates an extremely captivating atmosphere for its viewers. As you look at it during the day, the glass panels reflect the sky around it and create an almost seamless transition between its elegant rectangular steel structure and the vast surrounding area, creating a jewel on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology and also to the city of Chicago.SR Crown Hall, designed by German architect Ludwig Mies van de Rohe, which was originally part of the Armor Institute of Technology, a technical training school in the city. The school had appointed him director of the architecture department in 1938 with high hopes that he would be able to transform the program into an internationally recognized program. After moving from Germany to Chicago, he redesigned the school's architecture curriculum and hoped he could help students understand the relationships between architecture, history, and the environment to develop inspiring and influential structures that applied these foundations. In 1940, the Armor Institute became the Illinois Institute of Technology. Then, 16 years later, Ludwig Mies van de Rohe's masterpiece came to life. In 1956, one of his most famous buildings in the city of Chicago, known as SR Crown Hall, was completed. This building captured all the things that Ludwig had inspired his students to capture in their work. He we...... middle of paper...... of architects and engineers, I have a very fond heart for buildings of this nature. I am extremely impressed by the steel and glass structures, so I am very happy that I was able to tell about this structure. I didn't go in though because I was short on time, but I plan to go back and find a way to visit or tour the building. As I stated before, I was extremely moved by this building. Given my background in architecture, I would strongly suggest and encourage people to go see it. I admire him very much and think he's incredible. It has much to offer the city of Chicago through its architectural and historical significance. Over the years, Ludwig Mies van de Rohe's masterpiece has become an essential jewel for the IIT campus and the city of Chicago and I also believe that this building should be better known to the people of Chicago.
