Journalism companies have always had a strong influence on public opinion, and this influence has never been as powerful as it is today. In today's globalized economy there are no longer any excuses for not being informed about the latest events. News corporations now have more power than they have ever had before. These companies are tasked with providing unbiased news, but the definition of unbiased varies by country. Articles that are supposed to be impartial often have a strong underlying bias against the common beliefs of the country where the article will be published. This bias has the ability to influence the reader's opinions and judgment. A great example of this ability is the way in which two of the most powerful leaders in the world, the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, are portrayed. Both leaders are highly regarded in their respective countries, but due to the weak relations between the United States and Russia, both leaders are mistreated by the opposing country, especially in the media. Using the example of Putin versus Obama, the world's media could be considered bad for society, due to its ability to influence public opinion in negative directions. Weak relations between the United States and Russia can be attributed to war and other acts of destruction. The Cold War was an arms race to the bottom between the Soviet Union, which included Russia, and the United States. Every country had to have the biggest and best weapons to prevent war. Since the Cold War, the relationship between Russia and the United States has been difficult. Vladimir Putin is the current president of Russia, the former Soviet Union. Putin is well-liked, with a popularity rating of around 80% (Adomanis). President Barack Obama......in the center of the paper......europe/08russia.html>.
