Topic > Who is to blame for Macbeth's tragic fall? - 875

Macbeth, one of Shakespeare's tragedies, describes the treacherous steps an ambitious man must endure to receive the title of king. In the company of Banquo, who will be the heir to the throne in the future, Macbeth is confronted by three witches who inform him that one day he will become king. Macbeth believes the witches' prophecies, thus deciding to get rid of all those who are of the utmost importance in terms of royalty. Once Macbeth kills various characters such as King Duncan, his two chamberlains, Banquo, Lady Macbeth, her children, and Siward with the use of deception, he continues to delve into deeper waters. Macbeth exemplifies a plot that includes a character with an enormous amount of greed while, at the same time, other Scottish nobles attempt to fulfill the prophecy, which is to overthrow Macbeth. Even though Shakespeare's tragic hero, Macbeth, commits heinous actions throughout the entire play, he is unfairly influenced by several elements within the play. Since Macbeth chooses to take the lives of Banquo's brood, many literary critics and readers may disagree with the opinion that he is not solely responsible for the evil events. Macbeth, unable to carry out the threats directed at him, is paranoid and believing that others distrust him because he thinks irrationally, takes responsibility for the influences of other characters. In my opinion, Lady Macbeth, the three witches and the three apparitions all have a negative influence, leading him to kill Tishman 2 various innocent characters. Murder is in fact an illegal and cruel crime, b...... middle of paper ......, yet this shows the true gullibility of a man with such greed and desire to have power and sheer influence of others who are deceiving. Wayne Booth theorizes, "Take a good man, a noble man, a man admired by all who know him – and destroy him, not only physically but emotionally, turning him into a conceivable mortal."
