Started from the Bottom“All men are created equal.” This is the foundation of the American Dream (Jefferson). The ancestors of the United States believed that all men had equal rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This appealed to those who needed a fresh start or simply wanted a better life and this ideal became synonymous with 20th century America because America prides itself on being the land of opportunity. In America, many people from all over the world come to live there because they want opportunity and freedom. Since the creation of the United States of America the American dream has been advertised. In the last century the American Dream was made known by the Roaring '20s and the post-World War II era. The American Dream used to mean that every man had equal rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but now it has turned into “Any man can enter America with nothing and come out rich through hard work and dedication.” they took this dream to heart, making it their life's dream to become rich. In the 1920s the American Dream began to change for the worse. The dream has changed from “life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness” to “anyone can get rich” because America has grown as a nation. After World War I, the creation of automobiles, telephones, movies, and electricity were factors that transformed America into a superpower. The American people began to spend more and there was more room for entertainment. The American classic, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a novel about the indulgence and excess of wealth of the 1920s.
