Topic > A Minefield Analysis by Diane Thiel - 1354

Abuse of others is never the solution to resolving or dealing with anger, but a negligent approach to resolving a bad situation. In the wake of the minefield's destruction, anger leads to the destruction of his family due to his uncontrolled stress. The shame of abuse is told through the voices of children with: «He gave them to us in the volume of his anger, / in the bruises we covered with our sleeves» (14, 15, 425). Just like the body missing in the minefield, children suffer from scares spread all over their bodies. The level of anger a person must have to continue taking stress out on their children without a guilty conscience is quite alarming. The tragic result of the poem is that we know that the father has ignited in his children's minds the same fear that a minefield exploding at any moment may persist in their thoughts.
