The reason why Victor's father used his imagination was due to the anger he felt that his son did not make the winning shot. This is a perfect example of how anger and imagination can be used in concert with each other to lead to survival. In the case of Victor's father the equation “Survival = Anger X Imagination” is very true and evident. This proves that Alexie's equation is fully applicable to at least one character. This event may have been the event where Alexie was inspired to write the equation itself. For Victor's father, survival was only possible thanks to his anger and his imagination.
