Being young Everyone was young once. But not everyone went through this difficult period of life in the same way. What possibilities and living conditions do teenagers have today? Some people think that you leave childhood behind when you become a teenager and that you are still young in your twenties. I don't think there are any clear limits that tell you whether you're young or old. According to Christian tradition, one is considered an adult after confirmation, but I would not define fifteen-year-olds as adults. At that age they are not yet ready to handle the consequences of their actions. When you are eighteen you are considered an independent individual and have all legal rights, such as driving a car and the right to vote. You are also destined to serve in the military. However, it is not possible to purchase spirits before reaching the age of twenty-one. Today more than ever, fashion seems to dominate the daily lives of young people. Perhaps the reason is that they feel insecure and think that the "right" clothes will give them the feeling of being accepted by the group. This phenomenon has a downside. What if a student can't afford to buy these clothes? Will he be excluded from the gang? Some schools in various countries have tried to solve this problem. They introduced a rule that allows pupils to go to school only if they wear a specific school uniform. But many students don't like these uniforms. They want to decide for themselves how to dress. In recent years it has become more common for parents to divorce. Some people think that this conflict can have a positive effect on children, because children have a bigger family to cling to. Others think the opposite. But it is obvious that parental separation can damage or ruin many childhoods. I don't think it's healthy for kids if they feel dragged between mom and dad, and maybe it's even worse if you leave the child to choose which parent to live with. In Norway, children over the age of twelve have the opportunity to make their own choice. When today's youth seek entertainment, they have a tendency to fall in front of the television. This is not very constructive, because it leads to passivity. In the past, children used to tell stories and play, both at home and on the street. I think it was a more developed way of entertainment. We can already see the results of television's influence.
