Studying international relations means studying the history of international relations, the theory, the practical application of those theories and the result after the practical application of the theory. Smith talked about international relations and said that international relations are important not only from theory, but from history to understand today's politics (Smith 2006). So, when you study international relations you should understand the theory but you need to know the history because the history of a state has contributed to understanding how and why countries' policies are the way they are today. It is impossible to understand a complex problem like the war between North and South Korea by studying theories of internal relations. There is a complicated history between the two countries which were influenced by other states which transformed the countries into what they are today. So studying international relations means studying theories and history to be able to practically use your knowledge to understand the influence of a situation. Two main theories in international relations are the theory of realism and the theory of liberalism. Both theories have a common goal which is to be able to deal with international situations involving state and non-state actors, however both approach the situation in very different ways. Realism theory believes that the state is the most important actor, that states and their actions in the international system are motivated by self-survival and self-interest. Realism theory states that international organizations such as corporations or non-governmental organizations and other transstate actors have little real influence. The theory of realism believes that... at the center of the card... weapons. It has all the makings of a target that the United States would invade to prevent weapons of mass destruction from falling into the hands of terrorists as they have in the past, yet we view Pakistan as an ally rather than an enemy. We support Pakistan and give Pakistan billions of dollars in aid, yet countries like Iraq, Syria, North Korea and Iran we isolate and make enemies of them making them probably more dangerous than they were. In the case of Pakistan the United States manages to overlook all the problems with Pakistan and present different interpretations of the facts. Perhaps this is because Pakistan has assisted the US in the past and the US wants to maintain a positive or as positive attitude as possible so that it can keep some allies in the Middle East for future attacks against terrorist organizations..
