Children who work in these horrible situations are at risk of many things. Child labor puts children at risk of hearing loss, a high rate of absorption of chemicals and even damage to organs and muscle tissue. Studies show that “according to an International Labor Organization survey conducted in 26 countries, a quarter of economically active children suffer injuries or illnesses while working. Every year, as many as 2.7 million years of healthy life are lost due to child labor, especially in agriculture. Many of the industries that employ large numbers of young workers in the United States have higher-than-average injury rates for workers of all ages, such as grocery stores, hospitals, nursing homes, and agriculture.” (Baland, J., & Robinson, J (2000). These children are surrounded by numerous diseases and poisonings. Hilson (2010) stated: “Pesticide poisoning is a major killer of child workers. In Sri Lanka, Pesticides kill more children than diphtheria, malaria, polio, and tetanus combined. The global death toll from pesticides each year is expected to be approximately 40,000." (Hilson, G. (2010). Children do not they work in factories in perfect shape. These factories are not disinfected and even children get sick in the workplace. This physical damage caused by child labor can be a long-term damage
