To free society from a racist and sexist mentality, schools must include stories written by women of different races in the curriculum. If this were included in the school curriculum, many girls of different races would come to love who they are and would not want to change themselves to become what society says is the “perfect” image. This brings us back to Bordo's essay and how girls see themselves in a negative light because all they have to deal with are photos of an incredibly thin body. Bordo uses many examples of how many cultures value voluptuous bodies instead of thin ones, so if the media used plus size models or even models with normal proportions, it would send a message to girls that it's okay to love your body. If the media instead depicted images of women who are always perfect and instead showed images of women of color looking rough after a long day of hard work, then they would show other women that it is okay to be imperfect. Many young black girls usually hate how curly their hair is, so they try everything in their power to make it straight, but if the media showed a photo of a successful black woman who had curly hair and loved it, then he would show all the little girls it's okay to love your natural
