Topic > Theme of Strength and Unity - 1465

Unity is achieved by originally establishing fear, but the narrator only uses this point to create a unifying anger. Hunted like pigs, the idea that the black man's blood is precious, that tormentors are monsters, and that tormentors are all cowards, these are words meant to incite Ramsey 5's anger and unite the black man against his oppressors. The second emotion that fear leads to is pride. Pride that the black man now has the chance to stand up to his oppressors. The final sentence is about reaction and, united by anger, the whole can react. The fear of extinction is what drove the unity. In anger there is also strength, but not physical strength. Instead, strength lies in resisting the oppressor with final resistance. If we must die are words that are intended to be the final cry of an oppressed people pushed too far and too close to a senseless death. In conclusion, the three poems share the same theme throughout. The theme of strength and unity can be seen as a common point between three different poems. Written by prominent black writers, these poems can be seen as a message to achieve unification through the strength of blackness.
