Some Like It Hot is an American comedy film directed by Billy Wilder and starring Marilyn Monroe as Sugar, Tony Curtis as Joe, and Jack Lemon as Jerry. Joe and Jerry are struggling musicians who accidentally witness a mob attack and become targets. To hide from the mob, they flee the state as members of a traveling girl band, where further complications arise. They quickly become infatuated with the singer, Sugar, who, unable to recognize that her bandmates are actually men masquerading as women. Like most popular genre films, Some Like It Hot invites us to critique constructions of sexuality and gender both in the context of the historicized moment of the film's production and from the perspective of subsequent generations.
