Methodology The aim of the project is to increase the power of the bicycle by using an electric compressor. Steps performed:1. We purchased the Hero Honda Cd Dawn as our Supercharger project bike from Faridabad (it belongs to one of our group members). We also needed the following components/materials: • Turbo • Motor • Battery • Sprocket set • Air filter2. After sourcing the above materials, we mounted the compressor and engine on the bike by building 3 frames • Frame for mounting the Turbo hub on the bike frame • Frame for fixing the engine to the bike frame • Additional frame for the Turbo to reduce vibration on operationWe decided to use L-shaped iron bars for making the frames as they are easily available and can support higher load. We took precise dimensions using vernier calipers and metric scale and designed a CAD model of the frame. Then we took the model to a fabricator for fabrication work.Cutting L-shaped iron to make the frame membersMarkings for the screw holesWelding the members togetherDrilling screw holesGrinding excess weld metalCompleted frameTurbo secured with the frame3. Next we had to fit the gears onto the turbo and crankshaft. The turbo shaft was heated and the nylon gear was slipped onto the shaft and fixed on it, as welding and other machining operations would damage the tube shaft and render the turbo useless.4. Engine Frame Construction The engine frame was designed and fabricated at the welder's shop. The final frame to support the Turbo assembly was welded to the bike frame. Clamp to support the motor5. The frames were welded to the bicycle frame to support the whole... middle of paper... d. We also found that the chain drive worked better than the nylon gears as it had no wear. The bike's fuel consumption has been increased slightly, but the overall power output per unit of fuel consumed has been increased significantly. The best performance was obtained if the compressor was activated after the motorcycle exceeded 60 km/h. Using this process we were theoretically able to achieve an increase of 2 HP, which is a 27% increase in power according to the calculations carried out. In practice we gained 35 km/h with the compressor. With the spread of high-speed vehicles in India, the applications of this supercharger will increase significantly. This technology allows us to increase the power of a motorcycle without making significant changes to the engine itself. It also allows us to make engines smaller without having to compromise on power.
