The HealerMany people think of different things when they hear the name Jesus. Some people who hear the name Jesus may not think of anything. Many of the common themes that come to mind when hearing the name Jesus are forgiveness, teacher, or kindness. When I hear the name Jesus, however, I think of someone who heals, someone who will heal you regardless of your role in society. Throughout Mark's gospel and Donald Senior's book, Jesus: A Gospel Portrait, we see several occasions where Jesus heals someone of lower class or someone who was considered an outcast. In the gospel of Mark there are a few different occasions where Jesus heals someone. When Jesus went to Capernaum he healed “a man possessed by an unclean spirit” (Mark 1.23) saying “Come out of him!” (Mark 2:25). From this we see how Jesus is not afraid to heal someone who is not completely faithful, he is willing to heal even if someone doubts him. Another example of how he heals someone who is an outcast is when he heals a man suffering from leprosy. “If you wish, you can cleanse me” (Mark 1:40) pleaded the leper, and Jesus responded with mercy and said, “I will. He made himself clean” (Mark 1:41). This is another great example of Jesus healing someone who had been rejected by society. Finally, in the Gospels of Mark, we see him healing a deaf man in the Decapolis neighborhood. The inhabitants of the Decapolis "brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment" (Mark 8:32). Jesus healed him when he “put his finger in the man's ear and, spitting, touched his tongue; then he raised his eyes to heaven, groaned and said to him: "Effata!". and the man's ears were opened, and the impediment of his speech was removed, and he spoke clearly" (Mark 8:33-35). This is still... middle of the paper... that I would have to live the life of a so-called "angel" in order to be touched by God. This article has definitely opened my eyes to what one of God's and God's missions really is. Jesus. This article has also rooted a new interest in the Bible and a new view of Jesus. In conclusion, after reading the gospel of Mark and a couple of chapters of Donald Senior's book, Jesus: A Gospel Portrait, I have come to realize that Jesus is a healer. I have also come to the conclusion that, for Jesus, it doesn't matter what your social status or lifestyle is. There will always be the possibility that you will be healed by Jesus. Now I look at Jesus more as a sociable person, someone who relates to the life of the normal person. Jesus is not someone who simply teaches, forgives, and shows kindness. He is a healer for the common person.
