Most Americans don't care enough to take a look at the nutritional values of the food they're consuming. That's why America has the highest obesity rate in the world. This is a serious problem because one in three adults is obese and one in six children is obese. There are many factors that go into the normal American diet, but most of these factors are neither appealing nor healthy. Americans introduce too many processed foods into their daily diet. Some would say that other countries' diets are superior to America's because of the nutritional values it brings with it. Other countries have shown that an active lifestyle is an important factor in the average weight of the country. There are many things Americans could change about their diet and lifestyle to help them become healthier. Many Americans have no idea that most of the food they consume is processed or altered in one way or another. “Almost all beef cattle entering feedlots in the United States are given hormone implants to promote faster growth. The first product used for this purpose was DES (diethylstilbestrol), which was approved for use in beef cattle in 1954. An estimated two-thirds of the nation's beef cattle were treated with DES in 1956. (Swan, Liu , Overstreet, Brazil and Skakkebaek)” Many people enjoy the various meats that come from a cow, but that would likely change if consumers knew that cattle are one of the most processed meat sources on the market today due to the synthetic hormones that are administered to cows. “The three synthetic hormones are the estrogen compound zeranol, the androgen trenbolone acetate, and the progestin melengestrol acetate.
