Topic > Child marriage around the world - 898

According to article one of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the term “child marriage” is used to describe a legal or customary union between two people, one or both of whom spouse is under the age of eighteen.1 In fact, in a low- and middle-income country (excluding China) one in three girls will marry before the age of 18. Furthermore, one in nine girls will marry before their fifteenth birthday and in less developed countries the number of child marriages is even higher: almost one in two.2 Even if you give your consent to get married, anyone under eighteen years is unable to make a fully informed choice whether or not to get married, even if it will lift your family out of poverty. Although child marriage affects both sexes, girls are unfairly affected as they continue to make up the majority of victims. Child marriage should be considered a violation of human rights. It consists of devastating and even life-threatening consequences that most would not think about. But despite national laws and international agreements, child marriage remains a real and present threat to the human rights, lives and health of children, especially girls, in more than one hundred countries. Therefore, if people around the world gained more knowledge and interest about child marriage, it could increase the chances of countries banning child marriage. Ultimately, allow girls and boys to grow up and marry whoever and when they want. While early marriage can lift many families out of poverty, many families are unaware of the potentially lethal consequences that come with marrying at a young age. Although child marriage can involve both a boy and a girl, in most cases it is girls who are victims of child marriage. For girls, the situation is actually much worse than that of many people... middle of paper... child marriage. To conclude, child marriage is a serious problem and should be considered a violation of human rights. It not only puts the child's life at risk due to serious health problems and life-threatening consequences, such as HIV, malnutrition and complications related to childbirth and pregnancy, but also violates the rights of some human beings. As stated above, there are numerous articles in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that do not agree with child marriage, so supporting child marriage should be considered a violation of human rights. In today's society, if people around the world gained more knowledge and interest about child marriage, the chances of people actually making a difference would greatly increase. Ultimately, allowing children who would normally be victims of child marriage to live and grow as normal people would.
