The article "The CSI Effect" by Richard Willings discusses the impact of crime scene shows in courtrooms across the nation. Richard Willings mainly says that before shows that used forensic science people really didn't want anything to do with it because it was so boring. Once television programs made it more popular, young people's interest increased dramatically. This shows how much television can have an effect on our lives and one particular genre of television has a great effect on people is “reality shows”. Most of these shows like "Jersey Shore", "Love and Hip Hop" and "Teen Mom" are nothing more than a bunch of people behaving ridiculously on national television. They do not teach anything positive to society. These programs have many negative effects on people and three, I realize, are: 1. these programs make it seem like it's okay to use violence every time, 2. It's okay to abuse alcohol, and 3. It's okay to be pregnant at a young age. Our society seems to have minds that are just like sponges and absorb everything. I say this because in this generation it seems that regardless of age group, they have no problem acting out what they see on television. For example, the show “Love and Hip Hop” should be about the love between rappers and girlfriends/moms or wives. When you watch the show not much love is shown, mostly a bunch of women who show no respect for themselves and try to hurt each other with their words or actual punch. Now, what kind of example does this show the world? They give these young teenagers and even adults the thought that it's okay to fight. These are adult women, not teenagers, but adult women trying to hurt each other because a girl... middle of paper... in society sees girls on television and all that goes through their minds is that they want a family like them. They don't realize that paperwork, formulas, and doctors all cost money. They don't realize that they won't want to be children raising a child, but television doesn't show it. So I would definitely say that reality television is harmful to our society. All these programs do nothing but exploit people who do stupid things and get rewarded for it. People see violence on television and think it's okay to be violent. Preparing yourself by abusing alcohol is an interesting thing. Don't let kids realize that being mothers and fathers at a young age isn't as fun as they think. People in our society are very interested in these shows which are quite scary. Imagine what our future children will be like with these TV shows going on.
