Case Study Analysis1) Identify the ProblemThere appear to be multiple problems in this scenario. Let me identify some of the problems faced by Faith Community Hospital. First, there appear to be some ethical issues affecting several members of the Faith Community. There is a division of morals and religious beliefs between colleges and patients. One problem related to the division of staff is the fact that some staff members do not want to perform certain tasks or medical procedures due to their moral or religious beliefs. Then of course there are the staff who want to do above and beyond everything they can to benefit the patient in the most beneficial way possible. So we can see the divide between the two. Should hospital staff perform required medical tasks and procedures regardless of their views? Are they legally responsible to do the required work regardless of their point of view? What about patients who refuse certain treatments? Should the hospital be held responsible for this type of scenario? The hospital cannot force the patient to do something against his will, so if the patient refuses a particular treatment, it will be responsible for his well-being. There are certain rules and regulations that the hospital has to abide by and it seems like there are too many free agents running around. By this I meant that some hospital pharmacists fill patients' prescriptions out of pocket and process payments with the patient. And there are also consultants who treat patients without adequate insurance coverage. These are some serious issues that need to be addressed. Another big problem is the fact that hospital premium costs are increasing. They ranged from $217.00 per patient per day to $240.00 per patient per day. This is a substantial increase in costs associated with treatment in hospital. No one wants to pay increased hospital bills. At the rate things are going, the cost estimate may require the company to reduce fixed costs by 15%. In any business, it is usually inevitable that business costs will start to increase more and more. If specific actions are not taken, the company may begin to face serious financial problems.
