Germany after the warWorld War II caused many problems for Germany. After the war, Germany had to rebuild and clean up many cities, as well as carry out numerous tasks assigned by the Allies. Many loved ones of German citizens died causing grievances within the country. The German people wanted to rebuild the country because it was in ruins. However, the Allies divided the country and formed two governments. This division caused many changes in the German government. Germany was required to take many steps to rebuild after World War II. After the war, some people emigrated to the United States between 1949 and 1958. These citizens had many concerns, but among the worst were the Allies and the safety of immigrants. Not to worry, the Allies arrested many German citizens. This caused these individuals to lose money, food and created unemployment (Post World War II Context). World War II caused many deaths, including 500,000 to 2 million people who died from famine and disease. Another common way to die, at that time, was in death camps, also known as concentration camps. Depending on where you lived and your ethnic group also determined which concentration camp you would go to (Expulsion of Germans after World War II). Among the two million dead there were many women, children and elderly people. Many of the German men who died were prisoners of war. Furthermore, there are those Germans who suffered from hunger, fought against disease, the cold and who had been affected by murders and abandoned their homeland. (Mass starvation of the Germans). The consequences of the war caused the division of the lands.
